Dress - River Island, Shoes - New Look

Having seen the first few signs of spring arrive, I might have got a bit excited and invested in (translation: seriously overspent on) a couple of things. This basketball dress being one of them. It's the nicest I've found on the high street and it's easy to dress up or down, winning my seal of approval. Just need it to actually get a bit warmer so I can wear it more...

Such gorgeous images from Issue 9 of The Gentlewoman. Whilst coats/ponchos/shirts and swimwear don't initially spring to mind as a natural pairing, the combination of silhouettes merges surprisingly well, as well as diluting the somewhat daunting prospect of baring all in a swimsuit after months of hiding under clothes. In love with the final bodysuit...

CHECKMATE

Jumper - Topshop, Jacket - Topshop, Trousers - H&M,  Back Pack - New Look

This is probably the closest to print I'll ever get. These H&M trousers (or 'slacks' as they're called on the website) were a bargain and fit surprisingly well - perfect skinniness around the ankle but not too tight around the hips. This trusty Topshop jumper has been in my life for years. I throw it on at any opportunity, and really, it could do with replacing. But it's got to that perfect level of bagginess only achieved through frequent wear and tear, and I kind of can't bear to let it go. I think that's what they call true love.

On a side note, the last two posts have been without shoes as I had hurt one of my toes and have been wearing some very unattractive, comfy shoes. However, shoes will be appearing from now on...

SIMPLICITY NAILED

Images  sourced from tumblr and pinterest

I  really struggle with what to do with my nails. As you might be able to tell, I am in no way girly or frivolous style-wise, yet when I trawl through tumblr and pinterest for inspiration, I get lost in a sea of shouty designs, nail stickers and glitter. And whilst I appreciate the effort gone into the designs, it ain't me. I feel overdressed with anything other than simple block colour on my nails, but equally would like to experiment, even in some tiny way. Which is probably why I fell in love with these designs. Simple and modern, they are kind of like the anti-manicure and I love them. Any more ideas are totally welcome.

Sporty editorials seem to be everywhere at the moment, and I'm not complaining. I fell in love with this one the second I saw the fantastically ugly/amazing combination of sport socks and platform sandals.  Definitely going to use that styling tip myself. The Nike arm sleeves and socks are a great use of actual sportswear and give the shoot a little touch of authenticity missing in other editorials of it's genre. Well done Flair.

ARGH could this be any more perfect? Masculine cuts, leather, oversized turtlenecks, sneakers...its kind of  luxe streetwear, and I'm in love. The whole collection has serious attitude, but in that nonchalant, enviably effortless way. Bonus points awarded for the purple lips and mad antler/twig style jewellery.

TUMBLING

Tumblr is my vice and go-to for procrastination. I waste away hours image hunting, hours which should be doing my dissertation. If any of you guys are hung up on monochrome and clean lines, with only the tiniest hint of colour, then come join me here.

Melitta Baumeister is a German-born designer based in New York, who has made waves in the fashion world with her innovative material use and future-thinking design. The Parsons graduate cites architecture, fine art and materiality as influences on her work, which, upon seeing these images, becomes entirely evident. Her garments are essentially sculptures for the body (they’re made from silicone, allowing her to create those flawless lines and unusual shapes) and yet they’re not completely out of the realms of wearable possibility. Baumeister comments, ‘Shape is no longer determined through the interplay of fabric and pattern, but by the mold into which it is cast’ something which would resonate with anyone favouring a minimal aesthetic.

MELISA MINCA

me by Ivan Kašša

I'm a little bit in love with Melisa Minca's style. I discovered her blog purely by chance after a tumblr-browsing session. Her incredible, super minimal style is never dull, and always cool. The images on her blog are beautiful in their own right, with incredible and diverse examples of architecture featured in the background, reflecting the super-modern aesthetic of her personal style.
